This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of the new East of England region Endoscopy Academy.


The Academy Clinical Lead will provide leadership across the academy and contribute to the strategic development of the multi-professional gastrointestinal learning offer across the region.

Main duties

The key outputs from the role,supported by the Academy Manager, and the HEE East of England Cancer & Diagnostics Programme Teamwill be to:

  • Support and provide guidance to a number of different groups to ensure high quality delivery of endoscopy training in medical and clinical settings.
  • Increase the recruitment to the HEE Clinical Endoscopy Training Programme, working though system blockers/barriers to uptake.
  • Continue to develop the East of England model of delivery for the HEE Clinical Endoscopy Training Programme.
  • Develop upskilling and developmental opportunities for clinical endoscopists to extend their scope of practice and map this to established career pathways.
  • Work with partners to develop and deliver professional development for endoscopy nurses and support staff with the aim of improving recruitment and retention for the East of England region.
  • Continue to develop the programme of immersion training that has been so far delivered and build that for all staff groups within the academy structure.


The post is professionally and managerially accountable to the HEE East of England Regional Postgraduate Dean and hosted by the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.


The vision for Training Academies is that they will provide multi-professional environments where training and education of the future workforce is the primary focus, maximising the expertise of experienced educators and supervisors across a broad patch.

The overall aim is to increase the number of learners transitioning to the workforce utilising the academy model to increase training capacity, to provide a high quality and enhanced training experience and to accelerate learning to independent practice.


The role of Academy Lead for the East of England Endoscopy Training Academy provides the opportunity for you to contribute to the clinical and medical endoscopy workforce of the future and gain a different perspective of the NHS by working for Health Education England.


You will become part of a team supporting the delivery and management of endoscopy education and training in the East of England.

You will lead the development of the endoscopy training academy, its vision, approach and infrastructure for the East of England region, overseeing programme management, and development of systems and processes.

In line with HEE strategic objectives, you will need to work with a range of senior colleagues and internal and external stakeholder to lead project and change initiatives.
