Description
We are looking for a dynamic, confident, Nursing Associate to work within SACT (Systemic Anti-cancer Therapies) services.

This job is part of a new initiative to implement and establish a 'SACT Prep team' made up of registered nurses, nursing associates and senior healthcare assistants.

As we treat hundreds of patients every week across our main site and outreach locations, it's important to work as efficiently as possible to ensure that planned treatments run smoothly.

You will be required to work autonomously and as part of a wider 'Prep Team' working collaboratively with the MDT to ensure efficiencies in planned patient treatment.

Although this role is not predominantly a clinical role, there is a vast range of skills that will involve patient contact and interaction.

We recognise the vital importance of preparation for SACT treatment and the many ways in which this team can have direct benefits to patient care and experience.

As this is a new initiative, there is an opportunity to work creatively, and further service development ideas will be welcomed.

All relevant training pertinent to this role will be offered alongside a period of supernumerary status

This role will involve the following:

  • Working with the IT systems to check patient prescriptions, appointments and medical information
  • Interpreting blood results and assessing sideeffects against nurseled protocols to approve suitability for treatment
  • Liaising with the multidisciplinary team to ensure all required preparations and considerations are given ahead of the treatment appointment to avoid any 'on the day' delays
  • Completion of patient pretreatment assessments over the phone to assess suitability for treatment the following day
  • Patient advocacy and signposting
  • Participation in facetoface patient education sessions that will be held in the Maggie's centre for patients receiving SACT for the first time.
  • Communication with patients, schedulers and the parent team where deferral of treatment may be required, or a dose reduction is recommended.
