Early Years Practitioner Job Description

Responsibilities

  • To ensure children's individual learning needs are met and that each child's progress is recorded as required.
  • To work as a team member sharing tasks with other staff
  • To liaise with parents and other agencies as required.

Accountability


The Early Years Practitioner is accountable to the Management Committee and will be line managed by
the Manager and carry out delegated tasks as required in relation to providing the service and meeting contractual requirements of the Council.


To comply with group policies and procedures and regulatory requirements

  • To be familiar with the Care Inspectorate Regulations
  • To be familiar with and operate Early Learning and Childcare Setting's policies and procedures
  • To be familiar with the health and safety regulations, risk assessment for the Early
Learning and Childcare Setting activities and the safety of children and staff

  • To ensure that a welcoming environment is created for the children and parents/ carers
  • To ensure that equality of experience is promoted in the Early Learning and
Childcare Setting.


To be involved in planning suitable activities and implementation in accordance with

  • To attend regular planning meeting and contribute to written plans with identified learning outcomes
  • As a member of the staff team share plan a range of suitable curriculum based activities
  • To involve the children in planning activities
  • To take part in reviewing practice and evaluation of the service with staff colleagues, identifying changes to practice and new developments
  • To contribute to the Early Learning and Childcare Setting's improvement plan
  • To attend committee meetings as required and provide reports on request.

To ensure that individual children's learning needs are met, and that each child's

progress is recorded

  • To liaise with parents/carers in relation to gather information about each child's interests and preferences as required
  • To undertake observations of individual children, recording progress and completing assessments as required in relation to their development needs and achievements.
  • To contribute to information that is shared with parents/carers in relation to children's progress or areas of concern.

To work as a team member sharing tasks with other staff

  • To attend the Early Learning and Childcare Setting in line with the terms of their contract
  • To undertake delegated tasks given by the line manger
  • To attend regular support and supervision and annual appraisal
  • To access and attend appropriate training
  • To report to the line manager as required
  • To be familiar with the requirements of the SSSC Codes of Practice and PVG
Registration.


To liaise with parents and other agencies as required

  • To have regular contact with parents to gather and exchange information about their child
  • To attend partner meetings if required
  • To liaison with other agencies appropriately
  • Maintain registers of attendance for use when complying with the Council contract as required
  • To contribute to records completed and maintained for each child that are available to regulatory bodies.

Training and Professional Development

  • The practitioner will hold an appropriate qualification and to comply with the SSSC requirements for continuous professional development. Induction training will be provided by the committee.
  • The Early Learning and Childcare Setting Manager* has delegated responsibility to provide the Early Years Practitioner with access to regular support and supervision and an annual appraisal.

NB:
*In some groups a committee office bearer may take responsibility for ensuring support and supervision and annual appraisals are provided for staff.

Salary:
£10.90-£15.00 per hour


Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Dunfermline, KY12 8NJ: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Licence/Certification:

  • Driving Licence (required)
