Job Description:


We are looking to recruit a
Principal Consultant to join our
Rail Planning team, part of our wider
South-West and
Wales
Transport Planning team.

This is a new role, established to support our growing workload in the region. Knowledge, experience and an interest in rail aspects of transport planning is essential.

Typically, this role will involve working with clients both within and outside the rail industry, ranging from involvement in franchise bidding through to supporting third party rail scheme promoters.

Our varied portfolio of work includes passenger demand forecasting, rail strategy development, scheme appraisal, market analysis, performance modelling and operational assessment.


Qualifications:


Minimum Requirements:


  • Strong background knowledge of UK rail industry structure.
  • The ability to handle the project management of smaller projects, including cost control and client liaison.
  • Good working knowledge of standard rail industry modelling tools and techniques (such as Moira and/or Railsys), together with a strong understanding of the relative merits of approaches such as Passenger Demand Forecasting Handbook principles versus more bespoke modelling.
  • Strong technical and report writing skills.
  • Able to explain technical concepts to others, including colleagues and clients or Local Authorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree/Master's Degree in a relevant discipline such as engineering, geography, mathematics, economics or similar.
  • Membership or working towards membership of a chartered professional institution such as CIHT, TPS, CILT or ICE.
