About us

HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family courts and tribunals in England and Wales.

Our roles support our service users and colleagues, where people and businesses access potentially life-changing justice.

We're looking for individuals who are committed to public service and want to make a difference in people's lives in delivering justice.

If you're interested in developing a career with a real purpose, please apply.

This role sits in HMCTS HR, part of Organisational Capability, and is a key member of our Learning & Development (L&D) Team.

We provide the learning and development for all HMCTS employees, whether that is a wide range of bespoke development specifically for our business, targeted activities relating to performance and talent management or access to cross-government learning.

We are a supportive team, bringing energy, laughter and innovation into our work.

We are very focused on building capability in a way that truly makes a difference to HMCTS colleagues, who are undertaking operational roles in courts, tribunals, and our Service Centres.

We are acutely aware of the pressures they are under and the need for us to play a part in making working in HMCTS something to be proud of.

About the role

The HMCTS Head of Talent and Performance leads on maintaining, implementing, and continuously improving the HMCTS Talent Management Approach - impacting all grades across the organisations.

You will deliver the performance management cycle.

You will lead and manage a small team that will support the role holder in delivering this activity on behalf of HMCTS.

This role will sit in the HMCTS HR Learning & Development Team, aligning talent and performance activities with the broader L&D approach.

Your role as Head of Talent and Performance encompasses several key aspects (but not limited to):

  • Setting the strategic direction for identifying, attracting, developing, supporting, and deploying talent across HMCTS through designing and delivering the HMCTS Talent Management Approach in order to build a healthy pipeline of talent that future proofs the organisation, aids succession planning and ensures that our development offer is bespoke to the needs of the individual.
  • Building engagement with and recognition of the importance of helping our people to perform well in their roles through a framework of continuous improvement aligned to our organisational goals.
  • Designing and delivering practical tools and materials that aid the development of effective performance/talent/succession planning activities for the organisation
