The Nutrition and Dietetics Service at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust is excited to recruit a Food Services Dietitian to work within our acute hospitals.

We are looking for an innovative individual who is keen to work as the dietetic lead for food services.

You will work alongside the hospital catering team, dietitians and the multidisciplinary teams supporting the evaluation, review and development of the hospital patient menus and meal time services.


This is an exciting time for Dietetics, Allied Health Professionals and Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS trust as we seek to prepare for our move to the brand new Midlands Metropolitan University Hospital in 2024 bringing lots of opportunities for future development.


You will be working within an motivated and well networked multidisciplinary team alongside colleagues who are friendly, approachable and supportive and who truly value dietitians within their service.

The duties of this exciting role will include championing the meal times for our inpatients.

You will be working with our nutrition and hydration patient panel, patient experience, catering and ward based team to develop the meal time options and services for adults and children.

A primary responsibility will be ensuring that our menus remain modern to meet the therapeutic, cultural and religious needs of our inpatients.


This post strongly aligns with the MDT and post registration dietetic experience in working within food services and a genuine interest and enthusiasm to train others, support service development and to promote patient meal times is highly valued.

The role is key to our Nutrition and Hydration Strategy focusing on our people, the patients and our population. The successful post holder will be a vital member of our Nutrition Steering Committee.

Opportunities will exist to informally link in with the National Hospital Food Review for which our catering lead is an active member.

The Nutrition and Dietetics Department is a growing team of 35 based across Sandwell and West Birmingham. We have regular departmental meetings, clinical supervision sessions and education meetings. Continuing professional development is promoted and supported.

The Department trains student dietitians from Coventry and Birmingham City Universities across the full range of placements.

There is excellent administrative support, IT facilities and access to modern Trust library facilities.

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS trust is located near major road and rail networks with easy access to Birmingham. There are a wide range of leisure facilities locally.
