This Junior Clinical Fellow (JCF) post has been designed to provide liver clinical training after the Foundation years with the aim of increasing clinical exposure to medicine.

It would be suitable for a trainee in General Internal Medicine who is considering a career in Gastroenterology or Hepatology.

This post is offered for either a 6 or 12 month contract.


This post would be suitable for any trainee who has successfully completed a 2 year Deanery School Foundation Programme or has achieved equivalent core medical competencies.

Previous relevant experience at JCF level would be desirable but not essential.

We consider good post graduate education and training with appropriate education as essential components of this post.

Within both the Institute of Liver Studies, and the Trust (organised by the Department of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education) there is a comprehensive teaching programme with protected MRCP teaching time and access to the excellent medical school facilities.

The post holder will become familiar with all aspects of Medicine in both the in-patient and out-patient settings.

The post offers excellent experience in the care of acutely ill patients with a variety of medical and surgical problems, and the post holder will become skilled in caring for patients with multi-organ failure.

In addition, the post holder will attend outpatient clinics on a regular basis and participation in audit and research projects is actively encouraged.


The JCF will be rotated through a number of firms within Liver Medicine and will be exposed to a wide variety of advanced clinical procedures, in a busy tertiary hospital.

This post offers numerous opportunities to develop clinically as well as to perform research and implement quality improvement projects where desired.
