- £22,020 per annumAn exciting opportunity has arisen at WWT Martin Mere to join our Living Collection Team. We are looking to recruit a Living Collection Assistant who can support our Living Collection Manager in delivering the highest standards of animal husbandry and management, working with wetland species including Greater and Chilean flamingos, White Storks, Southern Screamers, Inca Terns and our Asian short clawed otters.


The Role
You will assist with detailed management of the living collection population, and the day-to-day maintenance of the grounds area. This will include feeding, counting, monitoring animal behaviour and pest management.

You will also assist with the delivery of general maintenance duties, such as hedge cutting, strimming, pruning and participating in daily cleaning within all exhibit areas.

Other duties will include promoting visitor engagement through public talks and demonstrations which contributes to our Centre objectives.


About You
To join as our Living Collection Assistant you'll need:

  • A level 5 qualification in Animal Care, or equivalent experience
  • A wide range of animal husbandry experience with wetland bird taxa including care, feeding, exhibition of birds and a solid grounding in animal behaviour
  • Experience of pest control to support best practice in animal husbandry
  • Experience of using ZIMS software would be an advantage

Work pattern:37.5 hours per week, 5 days out of 7 including weekends and bank holidays
