Job description:


As a Finance Officer you will make a significant contribution to the ongoing delivery of financial services in the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) whilst having an opportunity to train and develop as a finance professional.

You will be offered a comprehensive training support package. This includes funding of exams and study leave. In return there is an expectation of a personal commitment to developing as a finance professional including passing exams.


After gaining a base of experience and progressing with a professional qualification, there may be opportunities within DVSA to move into other positions.


Responsibilities


You will provide flexible resource across the Financial Control Team contributing to delivery whilst also building a foundation of experience in general accounting and knowledge of DVSA.

You will be predominantly focused within the Accounts Payable area, however you may participate across the full breadth of the Financial Control team's remit, in the following areas:

Banking - Managing receipts and payments through the banking process. Supporting the reconciliation of the bank account, ensuring issues are resolved in a timely manner, making sure controls over banking are in place, forecasting cash requirements.


Accounts Receivable - Tracking, reconciling and controlling income as services are delivered through business systems, raising invoices and resolving customer queries, processing refunds.


Accounts Payable - Involvement in providing purchase to pay and travel, subsistence and expenses. This includes tracking payments including card expenditure, resolving issues with suppliers and internal customers, ensuring records are timely, accurate and up to date.


VAT & Payroll - Ensuring VAT rules are followed, contributing to managing the monthly payroll, resolving payroll issues in line with HR polices and legislation.


Additional information
Occasional travel may be required within the UK, however you will be notified in advance.

To qualify for the comprehensive training package you will need:
A minimum of 5 GCSE (or equivalent) including English and Maths at grade C or higher.
A minimum of 3 A Levels at grades A*-C (or equivalent), not including General Studies.

You are self-motivated, enjoy a challenge, and have experience of successfully setting and achieving goals either in your career, education, or personal interests.


You take ownership of your own learning and development and will proactively engage with opportunities to build your knowledge and skills.


With an eye for detail and strong organisational skills, you can effectively manage your workload while meeting your studying commitments.


You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and connect with people from a range of backgrounds.

You work well as part of a team and under your own initiative and have the confidence to take forward actions unsupervised.

We are looking for someone with knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Excel. You will also have the ability to utilise ERP systems such as SAP.
