Lead Data Engineer


Focus 5 Recruitment are looking for a Contract Lead Data Engineer for a 6-month (minimum) contract with a large client, therefore operating inside of IR35.


What you'll do as the Lead Data Engineer:

  • Hands-on participation in Engineering tasks such as coding (Scala/Java/Python), peer reviews, building POCs
  • Lead, influence and contribute across the entire technology team while acting as an area specialist for your team
  • Partner closely with other tech leads to design and implement company wide solutions
  • Implement the necessary infrastructures which allow full monitoring of data
  • Proactive enhancement and support of the Data architecture to minimize technical debt and maximize agility
  • Resolve problems and roadblocks as they occur with help from peers.

Who you are:


  • 6 + years experience in Big Data projects
  • Experience building data pipelines using cloud services (AWS preferable)
  • Extensive experience in programming in Scala/Java/Python and experience leading and mentoring junior engineers
  • Good understanding of data modelling, schema design patterns and modern data access patterns (including API, stream, data lake) in cloud (AWS preferable)
  • Knowledge around Distributed Systems Architecture and orchestration (Airflow preferable)
  • Knowledge of frameworks and architectural/code design patterns [NG] for large scale data processing in a scalable distributed environment
  • Experience working with any NoSql database
