Description

The post holder will be responsible for the management of a clinical area, providing leadership, supporting staff and working collaboratively with Consultants, Psychiatrists, other grades of Doctors, Allied Health Professionals and Social Work Practitioners to provide and deliver a high quality and safe care.

The post holder will demonstrate clinical thinking in the clinical decision making process, including joint working with the Multi-Disciplinary Team to meet the needs of the patients, and carers to ensure that they are working to EPUT Clinical Policies and Procedures/Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Practice and Standards.

The post holder will co-ordinate and lead team functioning with particular focus on:

  • Management of referrals including delivery of care
  • Performance monitoring and management
  • Line management and supervision of staff


The post holder will contribute to facilitating the transformation of community mental health services in line with South Essex Mental Health Strategy.

What is Staff Bank?


Our EPUT NHS staff bank is an entity managed by the trust that hires clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals to take on shifts at our trust hospitals and community settings.

Here at EPUT we maintain our own bank of specialist staff to ensure that we are able offer safe and effective care at all times.


All our permanent staff are automatically enrolled onto the staff bank however this does not mean you have to work any additional shifts, but the option is there for you if you wish.


If you are joining our Trust in a fixed term role, please indicate on your New Starter Paperwork that you wish to join our staff bank.


  • The post holder will ensure that systems of care are in keeping the best practice and evidenced based.
  • Enable staff to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care with their patients, integrating Clinical/Practice interventions into a care package devised with the Multi-Disciplinary Team.
  • Use expert knowledge and experience when supervising staff and making decisions. Demonstrate consistent and clear decision making process underpinned by relevant theory.
  • Advise colleagues and staff (internally and externally) on patient issues utilising expertise and skill to promote holistic and therapeutic interventions in the management of risk.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills across boundaries and promote Clinical/Practice professionalism.
  • Work with families and carers in complex cases that require higher level interventions.
  • Carry out complex investigations on behalf of EPUT, and or County Council in accordance with both agencies policies and procedures.
  • Carry out investigations into complaints and liaise with complainants.
  • To manage human resource related issues such as sickness absence and conduct and capabilities of area of responsibility in accordance with EPUT policies and procedures.
