£30,375 - £34,287 per annum

Based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire; the Hydrant Programme provides support for the work of the NPCC child protection and abuse investigation (CPAI) portfolio and is the national lead for the CSE Task Force.

This is an exciting opportunity to join us.

We are looking for a National Digital Communications Officer to join a growing team who have a passion for making a difference and setting high standards in our communications.


You will work closely with the Head of Communications and the Hydrant Programme Communications Lead to develop a digital strategy and implement new channels to widen reach and engagement.

With the inception of the CSE Taskforce we have become public facing and seek a digital communications champion to bring bold new ideas that make a lasting impact internally and externally.

We are looking for someone with a passion for digital content and good understanding of digital technologies.

We are looking for someone with a strong interest in being part of a team that is supporting police nationally to respond to child abuse, exploitation and vulnerability.


Job advert (including person specification)

It is essential that applicants meet the following criteria:

  • Recent experience of working within a digital communications environment including corporate web content management and social media platforms
  • A degree qualification in a relevant discipline, and / or qualifications or demonstrable experience of using Adobe Master Collection including photoshop, InDesign, and PremierPro
  • Evidenced knowledge and experience of using different social media networks, platforms, and social media management tools to effectively reach, inform and engage a variety of audiences
  • Writing and editorial skills, with attention to detail and the ability to effectively proofread, and the ability to create engaging content
  • Analytical skills, and experience of sourcing and interpreting website, social media, and other relevant analytics
  • The ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, and to manage and deliver to multiple deadlines in a fastpaced environment
The ability to take a complex and large volume of information, and distil the essential points into concise, accurate, and engaging content

This is a Homeworking role, with a requirement to travel widely across the UK and work at other establishments nationally as may be reasonably required*.

There will be an expectation for occasional overnight stays*.

*Travel and expenses will be reimbursed in line with police staff council conditions of service.

Hours of work are 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, the working pattern is negotiable.

The post is offered on a fixed term basis, reviewed annually on the 1 April each year. This role is currently grant funded until 31/03/25
