Job summary:

We are looking for a Capability lead to join our Organisational Capability Group (OGC) in DIT HR.

You will be an integral member of the team, working on a wide range of projects to develop our global workforce across all grades.

You will operate at a central level, assisting with planning, supporting and providing a service to all business areas within DIT, including our global overseas operations.


OCG is responsible for:

  • Senior executive appointments and senior talent
  • Corporate talent programmes and early talent (including Apprenticeships and Fast Stream)
  • Professions and Core skills including working in government, induction and mandatory training
  • Leadership and management development for Senior Civil Servants (SCS) and nonSCS
  • The department's digital learning platform (LMS)


The role offers opportunities to build UK and global stakeholder relationships across our department, championing learning and development and building a continuous learning culture.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate experience in designing, developing, and implementing a wide learning offer. DIT has a strong continuous improvement culture where self-development is encouraged.


Job description:

To be agreed on appointment but likely to include:

  • Work with the portfolio leads across OCG to facilitate and support the development and implementation of programmes of learning and talent to ensure the right solutions are in place to build capability and evaluate success.
  • Manage specific projects across the wider OCG within predetermined budgets and frameworks to provide a comprehensive and quality service.
  • Work with senior leaders in the team to ensure the OCG function is running operationally day to day and that the outputs and focus are aligned with OCG priorities, organisational needs and direction.
  • Work with senior leaders in the team to respond to Governance commissions from internal channels and central government (e.g., Cabinet Office).
  • Managing the internal OCG systems & processes, providing excellent customer service to all and taking a proactive problemsolving approach to queries directed to the team.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the wider HR function to ensure the team's interventions are developed using organisational insight and needs.
  • You may have line management responsibility for a small number of direct reports. You will be responsible for managing performance, delivery, capacity and wellbeing, and reviewing delivery priorities accordingly to identify and mitigate any risks in the delivery of our programmes.
Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.


Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.


Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average.

If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.


Person specification:


Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience of working in a professional environment, with a good understanding of learning, talent and capability interventions
  • Excellent track record of delivering engaging and successful development interventions
  • Strong written, verbal, visual, presentation, and interpersonal skills collaborative team member and ability to confidently engage with a variety of stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong organisation, prioritisation and project coordination skills

Desirable Criteria:


  • Experience of coaching and/or managing a coaching function
