An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a new project exploring kidney cancer follow-up.

The project is funded by the National Institute for Health Care Research and aims to develop a new resource to support decision-making about follow-up care after surgery for individuals with localised kidney cancer.

The project includes the development and validation of models to predict survival outcomes alongside implementation of the model within a new online tool and a feasibility study exploring the use of the new tool within clinical practice.

The post-holder will be responsible for conducting high quality analytic research using large health datasets.

They will work on developing and validating the models to predict survival outcomes after kidney cancer surgery, using linked health data from registries and hospital records.

The successful applicant will join a multi-disciplinary team of researchers and clinicians with expertise in health data science, risk-stratification and kidney cancer care.

As well as joining the team at the Primary Care Unit, they will also work closely with researchers in the Centre for Cancer Genetic Epidemiology.

Over the course of the role, the post-holder will develop a robust analysis pipeline for: data curation (including extraction of relative information from electronic health records and management of missing data), the development of competing risks models, and the validation of new models in a second dataset.

They will also work with other members of the team to prepare manuscripts for publication and disseminate findings.

Appointment at Research Associate_ level is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience), including those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD. Where a PhD has yet to be, awarded appointment will initially be made at research assistant and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded (PhD needs to be awarded within 6 months of the start date).

The funds for this post are available from 1 February 2024 until 31 January 2025.
