An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Haematology department for a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Clinical nurse specialist.

we are looking for a motivated, dynamic, forward thinking nurse with an experience in Haematology.

The post holder will;
Be involvedin the pre and post care of all patients undergoing Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Transplants.

Be developing and improving services. Introduce any changes recommended by governing bodies, e.g. JACIE, EBMT etc.

Be formulating, implementing, maintaining and evaluating nursing policies, protocols, programmes and standards in relation to BMT.

Ensure compliance with JACIE requirements and participate in quality meetings and protocol meetings.

Updates the relevant documentation regarding stem cell transplantation.

Be conducting audits as required by JACIE and identify any local issues that may require audit and undertake these.


Principal Responsibilities:


Managerial:


  • To plan and deliver programmes to address peoples' complex and changing health and wellbeing needs
  • To promote people's equality, diversity and rights. To act as the patient's advocate within the MDT.
  • To monitor and maintain health, safety and security of self and others in own work area through ensuring own and others knowledge of appropriate national / local policies and procedure, and that these are adhered to.
  • To develop own and others' knowledge and practice across professional and organisational boundaries. Provide informal and formal teaching programmes for staff and teach formally on courses run by the associated university.
  • To contribute, coordinate and evaluate research and development activities, develop education and training for ward staff as directed by senior nurse manager, ward managers and clinical practice facilitator.
  • To improve quality of care of patients undergoing peripheral blood stem cell transplants.
  • To present relevant nursing research at National and International conferences.
  • Orientate new medical and nursing staff, and visitors to the unit, educating them to the role of CNS BMT.
  • Create, maintain, and update patient information books and leaflets as appropriate.
  • To develop and improve the service
  • To develop and sustain partnership working with individuals, groups, communities and agencies involved in BMT including organising and chairing local BMT meeting.

Fire


The post-holder is required to comply with the agreed fire procedures, taking the appropriate action if the fire alarm sounds, and to attend relevant training programmes as required.

  • To acting as a point of contact for patients undergoing stem cell transplantation & their relatives
  • To support patients in the delivery of care through maintaining the patients information needs, promoting their wishes and beliefs, and addressing their concerns
  • Scheduling patients into the transplant clinic at the appropriate time
  • Requesting harvest slots and completing the appropriate documentation for stem cell collection
  • Liaising with the stem cell apharesis team and the stem cell lab regarding stem cell harvesting
  • Liaising with the ward regarding admission of BMT patients
  • To be proficient or gain proficiency in the thawing and administration of stem cells and all other aspects of stem cell transplantation as required.
  • Reviewing BMT patients on the ward during their admission and prior to discharge
  • Reviewing BMT patients post discharge and liaising with the day unit.
  • Reviewing BMT patients in clinic post discharge.
