Description

We are advertising for a Senior Clinical Fellow (registrar level (ST3+)) in Upper GI, General Surgery at North Bristol Trust, Southmead Hospital.

The position is fixed term for 12 months and starting in October 2023.


The post is intended to provide additional experience in various general surgical specialities to enable progression into a formal NTN for general surgical training.

This is a Full-Time post providing with basic hours of 40 hours per week.

Senior clinical registrars will be expected to participate in ward rounds, clinics and operating theatres.

The postholder accepts that s/he will also perform duties on the emergency take and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation where practicable with senior colleagues.

The General Surgery department is part of a busy Trauma Hospital and performs around 190 emergency laparotomies, 150 elective colorectal resections, over 100 bariatric operations and over 500 laparoscopic cholecystectomies per year and has a busy and active elective breast surgical practice.


The General Surgery Department forms part of the ASCR (Anaesthesia Surgery Critical Care and Renal) Directorate, which is one of the Clinical Directorates within the Trust's operational services.

The postholder is managerially accountable to the Clinical Director, Mr Reston Smith.

The Specialty Leads are Ms Anne Pullyblank [Colorectal], Mr Christopher Wong [Upper GI] and Mr Samuel Turner [Transplant and Endocrinology]

The Divisional Operations Director is Harriet Livesey and the General Manager is Kane Sullivan.
