You'll report into a Data Platform Unit Technology Team Lead and be accountable for technical leadership and decision making regarding the database estate across IT Operations Core & Data in conjunction with the other Lead Database Engineers.


You'll be accountable for forming and maintaining highly effective collaborative relationships with Technology Managers, Technology Team Leads, Senior Managers, Technical Consultants, Project Managers, Service Introduction Managers, Incident Managers, ProblemManagers & other Technical Specialists across IT Operations.

You'll work alongside the Technology Team Leads to help ensure the technical resources within the Unit have any guidance and direction required to maintain and improve the technologies supportedwithin the Unit as well as sharing SME knowledge with colleagues to ensure development of all technical resources within Data Platform.


Day to day you'll be

  • The face of the team for major incidents you'll lead & work with team members across IT to reach a timely resolution.
You'll also be the incident point of contact between Data Platform Unit SME's and Lead Technology Consultants.

  • Leading on the reduction of repeat incidents across the database estate driving root cause identification and permanent fix implementation to avoid reoccurrence.
  • Leading on technical change providing oversight on key changes within the Unit & for key projects alongside striving to reduce critical or major security vulnerabilities for our assets.
  • Assisting Technology Team Leads with project resource estimations / demand profiles.
  • Leading on all technical support changes that will be required as the role of the team evolves given the everchanging technology landscape.
  • Working with the Unit Technology Manager to raise, track and action any IT currency or resilience risks.
  • Owning and leading discussions in areas of specialism, assessing the impact of new initiatives, work requests and the support of existing services.

This will include chairing technical team meetings on a regular basis, in conjunction with other Lead DatabaseEngineers alongside supporting continuous improvement ideas being discussed and implemented across the estate.


  • A key team player displaying outstanding behaviours acting as a role model for your colleagues at all times.
  • Leading and working on technical challenges and driving innovative technical leadership across IT, influencing others to achieve the desired outcomes.
  • Supporting the Unit management team in identifying emerging industry and technology trends & training needs.
  • Working alongside IT Ops Core & Data Technology Consultants to gain a broader understanding of the IT landscape and to deputise when required.
  • Utilising knowledge of services relating to the databases supported throughout Data Platform Unit to understand customer and colleagues impacts when issues occur alongside sharing this with members of the Unit to enhance service awareness.
  • Assigning technical tasks that require to be undertaken, delegating wherever required alongside providing advice, guidance and assistance to colleagues within the Unit.
  • Effectively managing all stakeholders, ensure that they are kept appropriately informed and consulted at all times.
  • Ensuring that policies, procedures and standards are updated and followed at all times alongside ensuring activities undertaken within the Unit are within regulatory, legal, risk requirements.
  • Providing technical leadership, advice and support to enhance ongoing Disaster Recovery arrangements for IT.
  • Coaching, mentoring and developing colleagues and peers helping individuals and the overall Unit expand their knowledge and skillset.
  • Representing the team & providing approval on behalf of the Unit at key forums such as Service Design Workshop (SDW), Major Change Board (MCAB) alongside attending Technical Design Authority (TDA) if required.
