Description
What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Read, interpret and analyse building drawings and specifications and make decisions with line management support to select materials and equipment that are required for the relevant plumbing job.
  • Undertake a period of training to acquire the skills to be able to construct items of purposemade joinery, carry out routine maintenance, repairs, minor improvements and planned preventative maintenance works, fix signs, notice boards, shelving etc.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of workshop and machinery safety practices,
  • Operating machinery would require frequent concentration to ensure safety is applied
  • Regular lifting of equipment, materials, and potentially heavy tools
  • At all times, wear appropriate personal protective clothing and equipment relative to the task.
  • Adhere to all health and safety procedures associated with their job roles
  • Required to analyse equipment for a variety of faults and ensure all tools and equipment are in full working order
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • Upon completion of the Plumbing & Domestic Heating Level 3 apprenticeship, an employment contract may be offered if the apprentice is deemed suitable
  • The apprentice will enter the band 2 Level
  • Potential to go to a band 3 salary

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Once the apprenticeship is completed, the apprentice will be awarded the Level 3 Plumbing and Domestic Heating Apprenticeship standard, equivalent to 2 A Levels
  • Apprentices will be given 1 study day per week for academic purposes for their apprenticeship. This day will be dictated by Dudley College and will be confirmed at a later date
  • The location of the training will be either onsite at the hospital or at Dudley College's Construction training facilities
  • Functional skills training can be provided as/when needed by the Trust through an appointed Training Provider to be named in due course in both English and maths
