Job description:

SQL Data Analyst - North


The SQL Data Analyst role will be responsible for creating, developing, and maintaining Azure SQL databases and associated code, as they relate to construction.

The role will work closely with the business to combine expertise in construction process andsystems to create data models and business views that present data in a secure, user-friendly, re-usable manner for Reporting Analysts to consume.

They will also provide strategic advice on the business's Data & Analytics roadmap and guidance on developmentof the IT Solutions technology stack.


What you will be doing

  • Working closely with senior business stakeholders to understanding reporting and analytical requirements to acquire and present relevant datasets.
  • Handle large and complex datasets from construction related systems and data capture processes (eg field data capture tools, planning and scheduling, estimating, labour and resourcing, design management)
  • Support in handling large and complex datasets from Dynamics365 Finance and Operations
  • Creating SQL scripts, queries, and stored procedures to extract data
  • Create reusable, data models in SQL through the standardisation of tables, structures, and schemas.
  • Verify the integrity of extracted data, including schema, format, checksum/hashing.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to ensure the data extracted is formally reconciled and approved before being made available for use.
  • Monitor and maintain the performance and stability of associated databases.
  • Provide SQL incident management triage capability for existing database estate
  • Work closely with the wider business and data team to support the ongoing acquisition and presentation of data, using common ETL languages e.g. data transformation via T/SQL, Python etc.
  • Ensure the security of associated data is maintained (inc field, row and table), as determined by the Data Governance and Technical Design Authorities.
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate documentation is produced and maintained for the Data & Analytics platform, ensuring agreed Murphy best practices and standards are followed.
  • When required, attend, and contribute towards the Technical Design Authority (TDA), ensuring best practices and standards are adhered to at all times.
  • Drive knowledge and skills transfer across the IT team around Data & Analytics.
  • Provide support to the IT Core Team were deemed critical by the IT Director or Head of IT Business Solutions.
  • Ability to lead technical discussion and technical issue resolution.

Who we are looking for

  • Detailed knowledge and practical experience managing Microsoft SQL instances.
  • Demonstrable T/SQL analysis experience, including the development of store procedure functions and the ability to create and modify complex code.
  • Demonstrable experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
  • Working knowledge of ETL and data ingestion concepts.
  • Good working knowledge of Cyber/Information Security
  • Knowledge and practical experience working with Azure Integration services (eg LogicApps)
  • Knowledge and practical experience with Microsoft Azure Data Factories, Data Lake and Databricks
  • Experience working with Microsoft Azure Synapse and Purview
  • Knowledge of system and data structures in Dynamics365 Finance and Operations.
  • Report development experience with Microsoft Power PowerBI
  • Data engineering experience with Python and C#, Web service / API development and Messaging Frameworks
  • Demonstrable experience with Visual Studio and Azure DevOps toolsets.
  • Experience of working with Agile project delivery
  • ITIL Foundation.
