Description

The post holder will provide clinical support to the Retinal Screening team to ensure the smooth running of Diabetic Eye Screening clinics.


The main responsibilities of the post holder will be to carry out pre-screening examinations, which will include instilling dilating drops and measuring patient's visual acuity.

To ensure that patients are made to feel welcome and comfortable throughout the screening process

To undertake pre-screening examinations.

To safely administer the eye drops (to enlarge pupils)

To measure patient's visual acuity.

To ensure that patients are made to feel welcome and comfortable throughout the screening process

To undertake pre-screening examinations.

To safely administer the eye drops (to enlarge pupils)

To measure patient's visual acuity.


To collect and maintain accurate and operational data including demographic, clinical and retinal information and to be scrupulous regarding the integrity of the data collected.

Undertake the screening Checklist to ensure the screening environment is safe (for yourself and your patients)

Maintaining a sufficient stock of consumables to run your clinic

To work closely under the instructions of the Retinal Screener.


To liaise with the Trust's IT department and the company who provide the software package used, ensuring the systems are fully functioning whenever possible.

To keep the Diabetic Eye Screening Management Team informed of issues and problems that may arise.

Be flexible in working arrangements to cover for annual leave and sickness etc.


To work as part of the Diabetic Eye Screening / Diabetes team establishing and maintaining professional relationships with staff, patients and visitors.
