Role Profile


Bunzl Catering Supplies, part of the Bunzl Catering & Hospitality Division, is the leading distributor of disposables, packaging and hygiene solutions to the hospitality and catering sectors in the UK.

Delivering to a variety of different customers in boththe private and public sector from small independent cafe owners, local health trusts and schools to national hotel and restaurant chains.

We are currently looking to recruit an exceptional Transport Manager for our impressive NDC operation based in Tamworth.

The Senior Transport Manager must have expert understanding of the Road Traffic Act and other applicable Government and DVSA regulations.

The incumbent to this role will take full responsibility for the execution, direction, and coordination of all transport activities and cost control of the department and support the National Transport Manager in local and national transport initiatives withinthe Catering and Hospitality Division.

Working shift pattern - Monday - Friday.


Responsibilities

  • Develop a national and local distribution transport operation, utilising outsourced solutions where financially/environmentally appropriate in order to satisfy customer demand. Manage company facilities in line with that profile and the requirements ofthe business continuity plan
  • Ensure all vehicles and drivers conform to relevant health and safety and Road Traffic legislation
  • Ensure route planning and vehicle loading is appropriate and suggest improvements where possible
  • Direct the effectiveness of private, third party and contract carriage systems
  • Develop key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of the transport operations
  • Conduct investigations to determine causes of accidents to improve safety procedures
  • Remain current with latest transportation technology systems and procedures
  • Advise management team on the interpretation and likely impact of developments in relevant legislation and best practice.
  • Ensure that the Transport Policies and procedures are being effectively maintained and act where necessary.
  • Identify operational improvements to increase productivity and reduce cost without jeopardising compliance
  • Lead by example and a demonstrate behaviours of a Leader within the Transport Management team.
  • Direct the activities of staff in relation to transport operations including dispatching, routing, and tracking
  • Ensure that staff comply with policies and procedures, safety rules, and government regulations
  • Interview, select, coach, train, manage, and appraise the performance of Transport Supervisors and Drivers
  • Plan, develop, organize, direct, manage, and evaluate the operations and budget of transport department.
  • Develop and implement cost improvement plans and change management plans
  • Manage fleet profile including numbers and types of vehicles, mileage and running costs in line with business requirements

Skills & Experience

  • Proven management skills with the ability to optimise team performance and development
  • Proven experience of engaging and motivating teams
  • Strong experience of working in a fastpaced transport environment
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills coupled with the ability to negotiate and influence at all levels within the business
  • Strong Budgeting experience
  • Good IT skills, in particular spreadsheets and knowledge of Transport systems
  • Digital/Analogue Tachograph knowledge
