Description
This role is advised in collaboration with Together for Short Lives.

Together for Short Lives is the UK charity to make sure the 99,000 seriously ill children and their families can make the most of every moment they have together - whether that's for years, months or only hours.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Together for Short Lives team as a Community Outreach Worker in their charity partnership with Morrisons.

Your role as a Community Outreach Worker is to engage with families of children with life limiting conditions, in particular families in black and minority ethnic communities and from cultural and social backgrounds who are harder to reach and may find it more challenging to uptake palliative care services.

You will help to link families with children's palliative care services in the region as well as other regional services and national services provided through the Together for Short Lives Family Support Hub.

You will work directly with these communities to understand what support is needed, developing links with professionals and services and creating opportunities for joint working.

Based at Acorns Children's Hospice in Selly Oak Birmingham within the family service team, you will be employed by Together for Short Lives but work closely with the hospice team.

You will link in with community champions in local Morrisons stores, organising and facilitating opportunities for families to engage in memory making/fun activities, and to share their story.

We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic and inspiring individual who has the ability to communicate and engage confidently and professionally with families, colleagues and professionals.

You will be committed to collaboration and partnership working, demonstrating excellent people and engagement skills to forge new relationships with a range of organisations and services.

Working for a national charity in a new and unique role, you will have the opportunity to make a positive difference in children's palliative care and help to improve the quality of lives for children with palliative care needs, and their families.

Please note that the role will be based at Acorns Hospice in Selly Oak, Birmingham with travel in the region.

There will also be some national travel to the Together for Short Lives office in Bristol.

We offer a great reward package, which includes generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, life insurance and a staff assistance programme.

Together for Short Lives are open to discuss flexible working arrangements including job shares.

Interviews will be held at Acorns Hospice in Selly Oak Birmingham on Tuesday 14th February 2023.

Amanda Whateley (Head of Clinical programmes at TfSL) and Susan Haywood (Deputy Director of Care - Family and Care Services at Acorns Children's Hospice) will be interviewing.
