Description

This is an excellent opportunity for a Research Assistant to contribute to a BBSRC-funded study investigating the three-dimensional distribution of the resources required for gene expression in bacteria.


You will carry out research programmes in super resolution microscopy, bioinformatics, and molecular biology; undertake project management and/or coordinate the activity of a multi-disciplinary team.

You will be expected to contribute to the writing of publications and submission to refereed journals, and to support other activities in the group such as student supervision.


Duties and responsibilities:


  • You will undertake the characterisation of fluorescently labelled bacterial cells to identify and develop suitable microscopy techniques, and apparatus, for the collection and analysis of data.
  • You will assist with the analysis of data, ensuring the validity and reliability of data.
  • You will assist with the writing of reports to research sponsors and create materials for oral and poster presentations, effectively communicating research outcomes.

Essential requirements:


  • You should hold a first/Master's degree or equivalent in biological sciences or biochemistry.
  • You should have previous experience in Microbiology and Molecular Biology and conducting microscopy methods including fluorescence.
  • You should have knowledge of basic research methods and statistical procedures, and previous experience in a research laboratory environment.

The post is available full-time, fixed term until 31 August 2024. You will be based at the South Kensington Campus.
