Job Purpose including main duties and responsibilities:
We require a customer focused individual to provide a first-class caretaking service to the Federation.

As part of the Federation team, you will be working to ensure high standards of premises safety, to implement an ongoing maintenance programme, effective site security (locking and unlocking) and the attractive presentation of the site.

You will be expected to carry out various duties and maintenance work as identified in liaison with the Headteacher or Senior Administrator.

You should be flexible about when the working hours take place, as you may be expected to work some flexible hours in order to respond to emergencies and support school events.


Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the site is kept clean, tidy and attractive:
  • Follow refuse and recycling procedures to ensure waste on site is kept to a minimum.
  • Ensure all bins are kept clean and hygienic to deter pests and rodents.
  • Regularly sweep and weed the playground and enclosures.
  • Carry out emergency cleaning as required.
  • At each shift, walk all areas, being vigilant about the condition of the school and premises:
  • to check for any defects and undertake action to correct and/or follow up with Headteacher/emergency services, as appropriate.
- to monitor maintenance standards and ensure there are no health and safety concerns.
- to ensure the school buildings and sites are appropriately secured.
- to ensure all materials are kept out of sight and in a locked room away from the children.

  • Undertake planned and emergency maintenance and improvement works, as identified or directed, and maintain a log of such works

Examples include:

  • Regularly inspect drains and gullies to keep clean and clear from blockages.
  • Undertake low level decoration works.
  • Assemble flat pack furniture.
  • Change chair/table feet, mount display boards, fix pegs, put up shelves, change washers etc.
  • Maintain and store all materials, equipment and tools in a safe and good condition and keep an inventory.
  • Carry out minor repairs and maintenance e.g. unblocking sinks, minor repairs to furnishing etc.
  • Porterage of furniture, equipment and supplies as required
  • Inform line manager of any required repairs or issues.
  • Remove broken items (furniture, equipment etc) and arrange necessary disposal or recycling
  • Fit coat hooks, shelves and display boards etc
  • Undertake regular health and safety and premises checks as directed (training will be provided), and complete record sheets provided, to include:
  • Fire checks including call points,
  • Ladders and playground equipment
  • Emergency lighting checks
  • Be proactive in ensuring security is maintained, including the setting of alarms.
This is not a full list of tasks but instead describes the main duties and responsibilities. There will be a wide range of individual tasks that are commensurate with the grading of this post.


Job Types:
Part-time, Permanent

Part-time hours: 8-13 per week

From £11.18 per hour
