The Opportunity


An exciting opportunity has arisen in The Work Management (WM) Department at Heysham 2 for a Cycle Planner to join us on a permanent contract.

As a Cycle Planner, you will play a key role in supporting the Management of Work process by preparing plans to be delivered by the Maintenance and Contract Partner organisations.

You will work as part of a team to prepare and develop the plans, while working closely with the delivery organisations to balance available resources against the planned work to ensure the work can be delivered when required.

The role provides a development opportunity to broaden your skills and experience, focusing on planning, team working, stakeholder management, and relationship management across the station.

Pay, benefits and culture


The salary range is between £34,621 to £60,826, with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Company Agreement.

The starting salary for this appointment will be dependent of your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.

Given the level of experience required in this role, it is anticipated that we would be appointing at a salary between £34,641 and £49,089.

You will receive 28 days annual holiday plus bank holidays, incremental and competency-based progression and a defined contributions pensions scheme.


What you'll be doing

  • To act as a nuclear professional at all times and have a nuclear safety focus in all activities and responsibilities undertaken.
  • Use operational experience (OE) e.g. OE information is used in preparation for all plant based activities as required in line with the stations corrective action programme.
  • The primary responsibility of the Cycle Planner is the scheduling and arranging of maintenance tasks to reduce operational risk through efficient work package and plant alignment.
  • Producing level 2/3 plans to support project activities to maximise work delivery efficiencies.
  • Aligning new work and bundling defects to agreed System Aligned Work Windows.
  • Continuously challenging station WM standards by demonstrating a 'cando' attitude to drive departmental / station improvements.
  • Ensure noncompleted work is dispositioned to the correct work window in accordance with compliance limitations.
  • Ensure significant or critical work in plans is identified to stakeholders.
  • Provide appropriate support to ensure delivery of Work Management Department and Station Business Plan objectives.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills with relevant stakeholders to promote engagement with the work management process.

Who are you


We are looking for an organised, motivated and enthusiastic person to join a team of Cycle Planners, who provide a strong Operational Focus for the station, through the preparation and planning of the maintenance activities at Heysham 2.


The role requires close cooperation with the station and contract partners Team Leaders, to ensure planned work can be delivered.

The Cycle Planner takes ownership of Work Week plans at E-17 through to the E+1 Work Week Critique meeting, ensuring the plans are fit for purpose and all parties involved in the delivery of the plans are aligned for success.


The Cycle Planner works as part of the Work Management team, where they will work closely with the teams Work Week Managers and Cycle Coordinators to prepare the planned work for delivery to achieve risk neutral plans.


  • Planning experience is preferred and advantageous.
  • A working knowledge & understanding of performing routine maintenance activities on industrial plant, apparatus or systems would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of a Nuclear Power Stations plant and equipment will be advantageous.
  • You will have a results focused candoattitude to work.
  • Strong evidence of being a successful team member.


Good interpersonal skills and the ability to encourage team working are very important as the Cycle Planner interacts with many departments and contract organisations on the station.

Enthusiasm, drive, demonstrating a 'can-do' attitude and the ability to facilitate change are essential.

Relevant experience in a Maintenance, Engineering or Operational background would be beneficial.
