Description
Provide support in the classroom to individuals/groups of pupils as directed by the class teacher/line manager (e.g.
IEPs, care plans etc.) To support the achievement of literacy and numeracy targets and other specific curriculum areas, as directed.

  • To provide feedback and liaise with the class teacher/or appropriate member of the SEN Team over problems to include the recording pupil progress through observation and questioning, regarding issues such as pupil targets (and Individual Educational Plans/EducationCare Plans where relevant) and report on the individual's progress.
  • Contribute to the development of a purposeful working atmosphere and implement the school's behaviour and any related policies and procedures. Invigilate tests and examinations as directed. Provide access arrangements for pupils during internal and publicexaminations.
  • Under the direction of the SENCO/Headteacher develop and maintain supportive relationships with parents, carers and others of the pupil's community. Work collaboratively with other agencies and professionals, as necessary, including educational psychologists,health professionals, and education welfare officers, to meet the personal and educational needs of individual pupils.
  • Provide care, health and welfare of pupils in accordance with the school's health and safety and related policies. This may include carrying out agreed daily hygiene routines, the administration of medicines by mouth or other medical procedures followingappropriate training.
  • As required, contribute to specific aspects of teaching, learning and personal development, for example swimming, school visits, practical activities etc.
  • Provide support for learning in the classroom as directed by the class teacher/line manager and help to maintain the order and cleanliness of the classroom environment. To prepare, maintain and deploy appropriate learning aids, materials and equipment.
This may involve cleaning up spills/bodily fluids.

  • To review Individual Education Plans with students, set appropriate targets and mentor students to monitor progression towards targets.
  • Undertake any other duties of a similar grading as required

Skills and Experience

  • Able to contribute constructively to and work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Able to work on own initiative with parents/carers and the child's community within an agreed framework and set of objectives.
  • Able to converse with ease with members of the public and provide effective help or advice in accurate and fluent spoken English.
  • Able to communicate effectively at a range of levels, e.g. with children, parents, other professionals, etc.
  • Able to contribute to the support of children in all areas of personal and educational development.
  • Able to keep accurate records.
  • Able to support learning in numeracy at relevant Key Stage.
  • Able to support learning in literacy at relevant Key Stage.
To support learning opportunities by communicating clearly and effectively with pupils through questioning, instructing, explaining and feedback. This will include the effective use of ICT to support pupils' learning.


To be aware and support pupils make progress towards their PLP Goals, assist with the pastoral care of pupils, attend to their personal and social needs as necessary and build and maintain successful relationships with them.

To promote and support the inclusion of all pupils in the learning activities in which they are involved.


Under agreed school procedures to give first aid/medicine where necessary; or assist with programmes of special care such as physiotherapy, hydrotherapy or speech therapy under the direction of the appropriate specialist.


To assist with preparation for school visits, prepare documentation and lead school visits which includes the supervision of pupils, in liaison with the Educational Visits Coordinator and Operational Lead.

Support for Teachers


Under the supervision of the Operational Lead, to undertake a range of teaching activities with individuals, groups of pupils and the whole class, where appropriate, using a range of techniques to present learning tasks and curriculum content in a clearand stimulating manner in order to maintain pupils' interest and motivation.

Under the supervision of the Operational Lead to plan, devise and extend appropriate educational activities.

This will include contributing to the development of PLPs or Annual Review and will require the understanding of aims, content, teaching strategiesand intended outcomes of lessons.

To support and work with teachers to identify and respond appropriately to individual differences between pupils so that demanding expectations may be set and to contribute to decisions about the most appropriate learninggoals and strategies.

To assist the Operational Lead in evaluating pupils' progress through a range of monitoring and assessment activities, using the results of this monitoring to inform further support work, developing pupils' skills and learning and to give oral and writtenfeedback on attainment and progress to both pupils and the teacher, as required

  • Provide support to pupils and aid the teacher in a classroom setting
  • Work with groups of children to carry out valuable interventions
  • Use your creativity and imagination to excite the pupils
