The post will be based within The Academy which comprises of three pods:

  • Integrated Safeguarding Hub (ISH) pod in conjunction with the family wellbeing team
  • CINCS pod
  • CDT pod
This unique and exciting opportunity will be working within the ISH pod.

The development of the Academy will give Newly Qualified social workers the opportunity to have the time and space to develop their skill set.

These roles, as well as newly appointed child and family support workers sit within the CINCS pod but will have the ability to develop their skill set across the whole academy giving them an all rounded and protected first year in practice.


The Academy sits at the front door of social services, the focus of the work within ISH is to support with any immediate safeguarding of children and young people and is a short-term intervention.

The CINCs Pod and the CDT pod will focus on supporting children and young people where there are care and support needs with the remit of work being up until the point of a child protection conference.


This is a very exciting time for Swansea in terms of the developments of the service and is a unique opportunity for two skilled and experienced social workers to join us and support with the on-going developments within the service.


About these unique roles

As a Senior Practitioner above all you will be passionate about improving the outcomes of children and young people and their families and have the suitable skills and experience to support the development of newly qualified staff and support workers enabling them to develop their own skillset and become confident practitioners by equipping them with the tools to build meaningful relationships and make lasting changes for families.

ISH Senior Social Worker
Lead on best practice

  • Support with the immediate safeguarding of children, young people and their families.
  • Carry out Strategy discussions, meetings, S47 and hold cases up until the point of an Initial child protection conference.
  • Support families to develop plans through family network meetings.
  • Assess any safeguarding issues and determine what services is best suited to support the needs of individual children, young people and families.
  • Support with the mentoring and development of Newly Qualified social workers within the Academy by providing shadowing and coworking opportunity.
  • Build relationships with partner agencies and work on a multiagency basis.
  • Undertake direct work with children, young people and their families.
  • Be able to make threshold decisions regarding safeguarding
  • Have a good knowledge of Safeguarding Wales
  • Be able to manage conflict and difficult situations.
