Trainee Sewing Machinist.

PURPOSE OF JOB:Sew fabric pieces according to prescribed methods to make various upholstery components using lockstitch.

Training will be provided in our training school.


MAIN DUTIES:


  • Receives boxes of bundles from Line Feeder and checks that all zips are present and correct and requests further boxes throughout the day as required.
  • Checks tickets 'set' is with the bundle and removes; retains 'personal' ticket and sorts if necessary the remainder into sequence required for insertion during sewing as required by other departments.
  • Removes bundles of pieces from the box and sorts out if necessary into a logical sequence.
  • Identifies work by either writing or sewing in identity marks on all pieces sewn.
  • Checks pieces for flaws and requests recuts from Line Feeder as necessary; advises Line Feeder of need for more cotton, zips, etc.
  • Sews pieces according to specification, check pile and pattern, direction if necessary, sewing in darts, pleating and gathers, inserting piping cord, elastic and zips, attaching fibretex, adjusting and easing the fit of components as appropriate, webbing, lining, and other sundry items as required by the specification.
  • Sews in work tickets and labels as required by the specification and returns pieces to the box.
