We have an exciting opportunity for a caring and dynamic care support worker to join our state of the art Imaging Department as an Imaging Assistant.


Our Sevenoaks Medical Centre team consists of Nurses, Care Support Workers, Radiographers, Physical Therapists and administrators to provide outpatient and diagnostic services to the local community across to a full range of clinical specialties, including orthopaedics, dermatology, urology, gynaecology, gastroenterology and more.


As a Biometry Care Support Worker, you will be delivering exceptional patient care in the line with the KIMS Vison and strategy.

In this role you will be working with the Sevenoaks Medical Centre Outpatient Department (Ophthalmology) on a 30-hour contact on a rotational rota working between the hours of 8.00am to 8.00pm.


Role Responsibilities include:


  • To support qualified staff in the assessment of health needs, planning, delivery and evaluation of care for a number of individuals or groups of patients, including clinical risk assessment
  • To undertake clinical work and related tasks as delegated by qualified nursing staff.
  • To assist registered staff in the implementation of individual nursing care plans and the implementation of the patient care pathways.
  • To attain the competencies of Visual Acuity, eye pressure measurement, instillation of eye drops under the supervision and guidance of the qualified staff nurse, technical skills of OCT, HRT, autorefraction and visual fields having followed KIMS Hospital required protocol. This list is not exhaustive but gives an outline of the core competency skills that are required in this role in the clinic environment.
  • Monitoring patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations and weight prior to clinic appointments
  • Maintain accurate records of patient care
  • Setting up equipment to use in the session/treatment and keeping supplies and equipment in order
  • Contribute to quality improvement
  • Understand the rights of the individual to have their wishes respected.
  • Willing to undertake phlebotomy when appropriately trained
  • Assisting in the patient admission/registration procedure

Person Specification:


  • Patient focussed, with a desire and proven ability to deliver healthcare at its best.
  • Experience in working within an ophthalmology department, with experience in visual acuity, eye pressure measurement, instillation of eye drops under the supervision and guidance of the qualified staff nurse, technical skills of OCT, HRT, autorefraction and visual fields
  • Enthusiasm and a real interest in caring for people is essential
  • Can demonstrate high levels of mental resilience in order to work in a changing and often challenging environment
  • Highly committed, have excellent interpersonal skills, have the ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional boundaries at all times
  • Care Certificate or willing to complete within the first 6 months of post.
  • Have previously worked in a care environment
    minimum 6 months in last 3 years:
  • A basic standard of general education with proven literacy and numeracy
  • NVQ qualification at level 2 or desirable
