PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

  • To deliver a proactive, customerfocused Income Maximisation service for a targeted group of residents in or near financial hardship identified.

This includes but not limited to:
○ Using digital tools to take the first step in contacting residents who have disability, long-term illness or caring responsibilities and are at risk of financial hardship;
○ Take a hands-on approach to assisting residents by trying to remove administrative barriers that prevent many vulnerable residents from accessing financial support;
○ Provide in-person support for residents through home visits or community events.

  • To work cooperatively across the Benefits and Housing Needs Service to promote an effective, efficient and holistic service to residents in the borough.
  • To offer support and advice to customers and signpost to partners.

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Identify residents who need financial assistance due to a disability, caring responsibilities, long-term illness and/or being unable to work due to physical or mental health barriers, and have responsibility for supporting them with long-term benefits uptake.
  • Be proactive in providing support for residents to prevent them from reaching financial crisis.
  • Learn and use digital tools, including the LIFT dashboard, to identify and engage with residents at risk of financial hardship due to disability, long-term illness, physical or mental health conditions, and caring responsibilities.
  • To deal with all day-to-day correspondence and telephone calls in line with service standards. To provide written responses to enquiries for councillors, senior managers, and MPs and ensure that responses are provided within agreed timescales.
  • To provide ongoing monitoring information for performance scrutiny to the Team Manager.
  • To actively participate in the reviewing of Income Maximisation policies and procedures.
  • To undertake other duties and responsibilities of a similar nature which reflect the level of those described above that may be required. The post-holder may be required to undertake duties at this level elsewhere within the service.
  • To foster positive team-working across the Income Maximisation team to ensure smooth running of the division.
  • To take a leading role in developing and fostering good relationships with Council services and other partners, including Private Sector Housing, health and voluntary sectors.
  • To record data accurately and contribute to the development, maintenance and monitoring of systems, registers, records and databases for the efficient storage and retrieval of data, whilst undertaking analysis and research to produce reports as required on all neighbourhood management issues
  • The post-holder may be required to attend community events in accordance with the needs of the service.
  • Provide in person support for residents, either through home visits or at community events, when this is appropriate and the best way to engage with a resident. This will be approximately every 2 weeks
  • Work with colleagues to ensure outcomes are accurately and consistently recorded and all data is securely held and available to auditors

  • Any other duties commensurate to the grade and role

£25.00-£25.53 per hour
