Royal Greenwich Shared Lives provides family placements, with Shared Lives Carers, for adults with a range of needs learning disabilities, mental health and neurological conditions such as Autism, physical disabilities and other complex support needs, in ordinary family homes in the community.

We are recruiting a Shared Lives placement officer to join the team.

As a placement officer you will be responsible to recruit, supervise, monitor and support a caseload of Shared Lives carers who are supporting adults to live an ordinary life and an extortionary way.

Adults using the service will live as part of the family in a home environment within the local community.

Placement officers work in close partnership with all relevant stakeholders including the shared lives carers, service users, families, care management, day services, benefit agencies, health professionals and CQC to ensure quality outcomes for the service users that are placed.


A relevant qualification such as QCF/NVQ Level 3 in the health and social care field is required along with direct experience working with people with a learning disability and other support needs, as well as having some experience working in a supervisory capacity.

You will also need to demonstrate an understanding of the issues facing people with a disability and their carers and knowledge of the relevant legislation in relation to Shared Lives and CQC.


You will need to be a fast learner who can demonstrate a willingness to develop and learn within a unique service, be an effective communicator, problem solver and have good IT skills alongside the ability to work independently and pro-actively whilst managing a diverse caseload.


Royal Greenwich Shared Lives is registered with CQC and the duties of this post involve regular contact with vulnerable adults.

Appointments will be conditional upon an Enhanced DBS Disclosure being obtained via the Disclosure & Barring Service. As part of safer recruitment, all references will be taken up before interview.

The role does require the post holder to travel in the community. Applicants must have a current driving licence and regular access to a vehicle. You must be willing to spend time working independently in the community both locally and further afield.
