This post provides an opportunity to join an enthusiastic Cancer Services Team with the Trust.

This is a key post within cancer services and an exciting opportunity to co-ordinate the Multidisciplinary Meetings by ensuring you effectively communicate with clinical and administrative staff to list patients for discussion.

The role will contribute to improving the care and experience of cancer patients treated within the Trust or at a tertiary centre.

You must enjoy working in a busy environment and be able to priorities your own workload.

You will need good interpersonal skills, be IT literate and able to work under pressure in a fast paced environment.


Once employed with SWBH, there are opportunities to gain a level 3 business administration level 3 qualification through our development apprenticeship programmes.


To provide administrative and clerical support to the work of the Cancer Multi-disciplinary (MDT) teams across the whole Trust ensuring processes are robust for collection of local data requirements.

Ensure all patients are tracked through their pathway by escalating concerns to a cancer manager, to enable waiting times targets to be met.

To provide a point of contact for members of the MDT on a day to day basis to ensure continuity of communication.

Manage the co-ordination of Cancer Site Specific MDT Meetings.

The role within the MDT meeting requires the co-ordinator to collect data relating to the patients journey and treatment management.

This information is then recorded into the

Somerset Cancer Registry (SCR), which is used to monitor waiting times in accordance with government targets and collect national cancer minimum data sets


In order to facilitate the efficiency of the MDT meeting, it is the co-ordinators role to organise the key elements required, e.g.

the requesting and collection of case notes, radiology and pathology reports in order to ensure that the information necessary for effective team functioning is available at each meeting.


In addition, the role also requires the post holder to arrange the availability of venues and catering requirements as well as formally setting up the equipment and seating arrangements at the venue.

To provide full administrative support for the weekly cancer multi-disciplinary team meetings (MDT's) which need covering on a week to week basis: taking referrals for patients to be discussed, producing the list of patients to be discussed on the Somerset Cancer Register (SCR), including relevant clinical data, and ensuring notes, x-rays and results are available at the meetings.

This will involve liaising closely with both clinical and non-clinical staff.


To track the progress of patients' journey with all members of the cancer MDT andto alert the Cancer Management Team of any deviations to normal pathways.

Allowing actions to be taken to ensure the patients cancer pathway is maintained.

Attend MDT Meetings, which can sometimes be held in a clinical setting, i.e. on a ward or in an outpatient clinic.

Attendance at the MDT meeting is vital as clinical information from the MDT discussion is gathered and verified by the clinicians, thus ensuring accurate and timely data collection.

Ensure action plans are produced and recorded for each patient discussed at the MDT meetings (within specified time scales).

Be responsible for and ensure that any appropriate follow-up actions from MDT meetings are carried out (in a timely) as identified by clinical teams.


Initiate the use of, and operate, Video Conferencing Equipment within the MDT environment, and liaise with relevant personnel to ensure the maintenance and purchasing of specialist additional equipment.


Organise the management and collection of designated data items from medical case notes and other data sources and information systems.

This includes the collation of patient clinical and non-clinical data/ information in order to meet Government Waiting Times Targets.

Co-ordinate the appropriate recording and processing of confidential patient information, in relation to the Cancer Standards.

An extensive knowledge of all the cancer sites and other team dynamics is required in order to cross cover for other Patient co-ordinators, when appropriate,
