Description

The Estates Maintenance Department are looking to recruit a Maintenance Assistant Higher to join our dedicated team at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust.

We operate across Southampton General Hospital and Princess Anne Hospital, this is a large static site. You will working with

in a team of Assistance and trades staff and assisting in the repair and maintenance of various systems through out the hospital.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assisting band 2 maintenance assistants
  • Plumbing and drainage
  • Boilers/calorifiers.
  • Nurse call, portable equipment testing.
  • Ventilation.
  • Lamp/fluorescent tube replacement
  • Minor building fabric repairs.
  • Decoration of small areas/rooms as they become available
  • Hanging/rehanging of notice boards/white boards.
  • General maintenance related cleaning duties.
  • Providing backup for craftsmen/contractors.
  • Other specialist duties may also be required after appropriate training
What we are looking for

  • To be able to understand and clarify detailed instructions,interpretingoperational manuals, finding best solutions, alsodemonstrating some
  • Analytical and judgement skills
  • Manage own workload, prioritising work and response times
  • Work independently, without direct supervision or as part of
a team and where appropriate, identifying any deficiencies and report
them to the appropriate team leader so there is minimum disruption whilst carrying out work.

  • Demonstrate own activities to less experienced or new
employees and support induction of new starters.

  • Take responsibility for the collection of materials and
consumables from suppliers, as required.

  • To work safely with tools ensuring a controlled working
area, in accordance with Health & Safety Regulations, and site specific protocols.

  • To have a good understanding of all aspects of fire safety.
  • Participate in extended hours activity via rostered overtime.
