Description

The main purpose of the job:

  • The core purpose of this role is to support identified pupils with SEND and/or an EHCP within the classroom environment, small group situations and on a one-to-one basis. Learning Support Assistants will work with teachers to raise the learning and attainment of pupils while also promoting their independence, self-esteem and social inclusion
  • To provide the necessary pastoral care to enable pupils to feel secure, happy, and able to learn
  • Supervise the activities of individuals or groups of pupils both in and out of the classroom

Major Duties and Responsibilities:


  • To promote safeguarding and the welfare of children
  • To support, assist & supervise the children under the direction of the class teacher
  • To participate in the planning process as directed by the class teacher
  • To aid in the development of learning resources within the school
  • To undertake first aid duties and attend to unwell children as necessary
  • To provide support for all professionals delivering teaching
  • To provide clerical assistance as necessary e.g., maintaining records

Job Activities:


  • To assist in the planning, recording and implementation of the curriculum for pupils, including those with SEND and / or an EHCP
  • To work with the class teacher in lesson planning, and differentiating work as appropriate to support the delivery of the curriculum
  • To deliver directed task activities and provide written and oral feedback to children
  • To monitor and evaluate the child's learning and provide feedback to the teacher
  • To facilitate positive interactions between the child and peers
  • To prepare resources
  • To assist with supervision during educational visits
  • To provide support for children with special educational needs including assistance generally
  • To liaise sensitively with parents under the direction of the class teacher
  • To implement the school behaviour policy
  • To undertake break time and lunch time activities as timetabled
