Working within the Land Systems Managed Support Service business the, Head of Spares, will be a member of the Senior Leadership team.

You will be responsible for growing and delivering the Spare Parts business line where we source, manufacture and supply spare parts for a wide range of equipment.

This equipment is mostly for defence & security, but this can change.

You will drive growth through existing and new market offerings, and via existing and new customers.

In addition you will oversee the quoting and parts manufacture/sourcing team within your domain, working in conjunction with other stakeholders such as supply chain, operations, engineering, export control, and shipping to ensure that KPIs and P&L are achieved.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evolve the business strategy for the Spare Parts business line which has ambitious growth plans.
  • Understand the market and focus activity where opportunities are greatest.
  • Establish strong relationships with suppliers, customers and internal Support Managers to drive growth plans.
  • Build competitive and compelling quotations in a timely manner for our customers, securing orders and ensuring that it is delivered on schedule.
  • Liaise with existing customers to ensure the value they require is being created and delivered and that your team are successfully discharging their work activity in line with expectations.
  • Drive team capability and build out robust surge and succession plans aligned to meeting the business strategy.
  • Report P&L activities, results, market position, and projections with accuracy and promptness.
  • Provide strong and inspirational leadership to your team.
  • Coordinate and promote strong collaborative working across the organisational matrix including supply chain, operations, engineering, export control, shipping, commercial, and finance.
  • Assist in the annual budget and forecast for the executive director.
  • Manage a team of spares engineers, logistics, obsolescence, and other specialists to deliver projects and ensure the financial performance of contracts.
  • Previous P&L ownership of a programme, business area or product line.
  • Experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment, particularly equipment throughlife Support, would be beneficial.
  • Experience in logistics/shipping and import/export control would be valuable.
  • Experience of formulating estimates and quotations from costs.
  • Strong experience in identifying and proactively shaping business responses to customer needs.
  • Experience in driving business growth/ identifying new markets.
  • Experience of partnering with a range of external and internal key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable track record of success.
  • A thorough understanding of spare parts provision lifecycle from new customer engagement and enquiries, through sourcing, quotations, manufacture/supply, shipping and logistics.
  • A business mindset with a blend of sales, commercial and engineering competency.
  • A degree in engineering, commercial or equivalent.
  • A high level of customer focus and commercial awareness.
  • An understanding of financial management and wider management principles and techniques.
  • Project management skills and the ability to flexibly deploy those skills.
