Job Summary


The roles of the Principal Educational Psychologists are key to ability of the Local Authority to meet the statutory requirements of the Local Authority.


One Principal Educational Psychologist focuses upon the provision of statutory advice and effective early identification, whilst the other Principal Educational Psychologist focuses upon traded work and critical incidents.

However, it is expected that bothPrincipal Educational Psychologists will support all areas of work where required and will both lead and develop service contributions to strategic developments.


Priority service functions are:

  • Provision and coordination of professional advice and support to decision makers and professionals including statutory advice to inform the Education, Health and Care Plan assessments and reviews.
  • Ensure that the developmental and learning needs of children and young people are accurately assessed and responded to appropriately, particularly in regard to early identification and an effective graduated response.
  • Provision of advice, responses for critical incidents, particularly within education or early development settings
  • Provision of a comprehensive traded educational psychology service to schools, early years' settings, alternative provision and colleges, and other organisations where this will benefit the service to and impact of that service on outcomes for childrenand young people with SEND

KNOWLEDGE:


  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the factors that lead to improvement in achievement levels for children and young people particularly with SEND; of best practice in educational psychology; and of
Application and Interview

how psychology supports learning and well-being

  • A thorough uptodate knowledge
of relevant legislation, statutory guidance and Local Authority SEND procedures.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Psychology
  • Educational Psychology Professional Qualification at Master or Doctorate level
  • Professional Postgraduate qualification in Educational
Psychology

  • Eligibility for Chartered Status as an EP and registration with the Health
and Care Professions Council
