Birmingham City University is a large and diverse place to study right in the heart of the city and we currently have an exciting opportunity to join the Deanery Team in the Faculty of Business, Law and Social Sciences (BLSS).


This is a Personal Assistant role, supporting the members of the Faculty Leadership Team and working alongside the Deanery administrative team.


Ensuring meticulous attention to detail and efficient support to the Faculty Leadership Team is key to the effectiveness of this role.

Through effective organisation and management of your portfolio, the Personal Assistant will:

  • Support the activities of the Faculty Leadership Team's portfolio
  • Maintain a busy diary of appointments, deadlines and key events and balance conflicting priorities
  • Coordinate meetings, including the preparation of agenda, briefing materials and the distribution of papers
  • Prioritise, respond to and redirect communications internally and externally as appropriate
  • Support and work alongside a team of PAs and Administrators who support the work of the Faculty Senior Leadership Team
  • Maintain an internal network within the Executive, Administrative and Academic departments


You will be educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) coupled with proven administrative, IT and customer service experience within a complex environment.

You'll need to have excellent IT skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Your drive to deliver superb customer service and your exceptional communication skills alongside your ability to act as a team player, demonstrate intellectual curiosity, to manage your workload and your excellent interpersonal and communication skills will be what sets you apart.


  • Previous Personal Assistant experience
  • A high level of literacy and numeracy
  • Experience of managing and maintaining sensitive and confidential information
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to manage shifting priorities
