Description
Job description

The PDRA will be integrated in a UK-US collaborative project funded by BBSRC (UK) and NSF/Bio (US).

The project immerses in the fascinating world of Quantum Biology, focusing on the understanding of spin-polarized electron currents in biology.

It involves developments of state-of-the-art single-protein electrical detection methods based on scanning tunnelling microscopies (STM) in wet environments. The project is highly interdisciplinary mixing single-protein biophysics, wet chemistry and molecular biology.

  • Advanced use of Scanning Tunnelling Microscopies, preferable in aqueous environments. Experience in electrochemical Scanning Tunnelling Microscopies will be highly valued.
  • Advanced use on electrochemical approaches for the characterization of redox active (bio)molecules, i.e., Bioelectrochemistry.
  • Experience in wetchem environments: sample preparations with analytical accuracy, electrode surface preparation, _etc._
  • Experience in the use of surface analytical characterization techniques.
This post will be offered on an a fixed-term contract for up to 3 years (yearly renewed upon positive evaluation)

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities

Key responsibilities and aims:

  • Singlemolecule electrical characterization of Redox Proteins and Biological Cofactors.
  • Singlecrystal surface preparation and chemical functionalization.
  • Customization of STM experiments in wet environments.
  • Surface characterization: electrochemistry, impedance, XPS/UPS, CD, UVvis/fluorescence, etc
  • Mentoring PhD students working on STMrelate projects
  • Active leadership in writing scientific documents and in outreaching activities
  • Active leadership in lab managing and equipment maintenance.
  • The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post._
