SERPIT is the first fully collaborated Counter Terrorism (CT) and Organised Crime (OC) Prison Intelligence Unit nationally.

It manages the intelligence flow of CT and OC intelligence from HMP Prison Service to the Police and other law enforcement and partner agencies.


  • The first point of contact for serious organised crime and counter terrorism within prisons.
  • Evaluation and dissemination of intelligence.
  • Intelligence development and analysis.
  • Release management.
  • Evaluation of corruption prevention intelligence.
  • Release management at multi agency extremism screening meetings (MAESM) and multi agency public protection (MAPPA).
  • Disruption opportunities for those offenders presenting the highest risk.


In this role you will be responsible for the operational and tactical management of Prison intelligence, on behalf of Serious Organised Crime, National security and Terrorism.

You will also oversee and have responsibility for overt crime investigations linked to prison OCG's and Prison Corruption.

You will lead a team of intelligence and investigative professionals, providing support to sensitive covert and overt investigations, delivering activity across the South East in line with the CONTEST strategy.


  • You will manage a team of Prison Intelligence Officers across all five forces in the South East Region in line with National Standards of Intelligence Management (NSIM) processes, ensuring consistent delivery across regional force boundaries. Whilst reporting to both heads of SEROCU and CT. There is also a requirement to be on the CTPSE Intelligence Manager on call rota for the region.

Required knowledge/skills
Essential

  • PIP Level
  • Minimum.
  • Proven leadership abilities in intelligence development operations and investigations.
  • Experience in assessing implication of risk beyond direct areas of responsibility.
  • Experience of intelligence systems and procedures together with associated legislation.
  • Understanding of the submission of RIPA authorities and management of associated product.
  • Experience in risk assessment and management.
Desirable

  • Previous exposure to covert operational tactics.
  • Previous experience in relation to CHIS management.
  • Knowledge of Counter Terrorism organisational structures and processes.
  • Knowledge of Serious Organised Crime structures and processes.

Additional information

  • Your primary role is that of a Police Officer, therefore at any time you may be deployed in alternative operational duties dependent upon operational need.
  • You will be expected to be flexible with working hours to ensure resilience within the team and meet the requirements of the role throughout the South East region and wider CT network.
  • On occasions this may be to support fasttime response to critical incidents, major events and serious crime or disorder, nationally.
  • The post requires frequent access to the most sensitive intelligence material. The post holder must have a high level of personal integrity and will be required to successfully achieve and maintain security vetting to DV level. Additionally, this material is of particular sensitivity to the UK and its distribution must be restricted to UK nationals.
  • This post requires servicing of an oncall function and duty weekend cover within wider Cardres as deemed.
  • You will be expected to Deputise for the Head of
    SERPIT as required.
  • Whilst this role is allocated to a post with a specific brief requiring detailed knowledge, it is also expected that the post holder maintains a broad overview of CTPSE, its context and priorities. The brief will change according to the operational priorities of the department and terrorist threat.
