Description

The Eastern Hub of the bowel cancer screening programme currently invites 56-74 year olds registered with a GP to be screened, via a faecal occult blood test, for bowel cancer.

The Department also offers this test to patients with vague symptoms of colorectal cancer, via GP requests. Both services are still expanding and so more cancers are being detected.

We are looking for a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join our UKAS accredited laboratory to work within the Laboratory Lead team of the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme at QMC.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to join our Department and make a real difference to cancer survival rates in England.

In addition to the below summary you need to familiarize yourself with full Job Description and Person Specification documents attached to this advert.

As part of the Laboratory Lead team, the post holders' main responsibility is to jointly lead on all aspects of the Bowel Cancer Screening Laboratory which provides a screening service to the East Midlands and East of England areas, and a symptomatic service to GPs in the East Midlands, the test being a faecal immunochemical test (FIT) to detect occult blood in faeces.

This will include the daily supervision and training of staff and organizing the development and implementation of Quality Assurance (QA) measures for all aspects of the programme, ensuring that standards are met for the work of a national screening service.

Our Department delivers a quality driven, cost effective, patient focused service consistent with the objectives of the National Bowel Screening Programme and Nottingham University Hospitals Trust.

We are very proud of the service that we provide and need an additional person to support increasing workloads, and help provide technical skill and laboratory management alongside the current Lab Leads, and our Operational Management Team, to ensure the smooth running of the laboratory areas.
