The Estates & Facilities Directorate at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a mechanical maintenance worker on a bank basis.


You will be required to take part of the mechanical maintenance team and water safety providing front line delivery of maintenance, defect & Breakdown response and Pre-Planned maintenance tasks to contribute to the delivery of effective, efficient and economical day-to-day maintenance, new and alteration works to ensure the safety of patients, staff and members of the public.

  • Legionella testing/sampling.
  • Utilising Mechanical / Plumbing / Fitter experience to complete work tasks on site
  • Work with all trades staff, (joiner, plumbers, electricians and fitter) in undertaking a comprehensive planned maintenance programme in accordance with statutory, mandatory and economic requirements.
  • Undertake maintenance tasks, unsupervised, such as replacing faulty lamps, replacing filters, sterilising shower heads and sentinel tap testing.
  • May be a future requirement to take training to erect and dismantle access scaffolds and platforms, mobile platforms, to assist execution of work programmes.
  • May be a future requirement to take training to access confined spaces to provide maintenance within those areas
  • Record utility readings e.g. Gas, electricity, water and steam.
  • Undertake programmed boiler house inspections, receive and record fuel deliveries and monitor fuel tank levels and report findings.
  • Maintain cleanliness of plant rooms and workshops.
  • Carry out day to day maintenance of works and checks of equipment and vehicles.
