An exciting opportunity has arisen within the South West Clinical School in Cornwall. We are looking to second two Nursing Associates from practice to a part-time Research Associate position.


These Nursing Associate Research Associates will be supported by senior academics from within the Clinical School and University to deliver an externally funded workforce related research and evaluation project in the specialty area of mental health, learning disability and autism practice.


The South West Clinical School in Cornwallis an established collaboration between Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Plymouth's School of Nursing and Midwifery and School of Health Professions.


Under the direction of the co-directors of the Clinical School and local leadership team, the postholders will work with a range of stakeholders to plan, prepare, and be supported in deliver the study developing skills in evidence reviewing, securing study approvals, recruitment and delivery of focus groups, data analysis and reporting.

The two post are part-time post working 18.75 hours per week.

The Clinical School is looking for self-motivated, dynamic and adaptable individuals to work on this study.

The postholder will work with the Clinical School leadership team to deliver an externally funded research and evaluation project that focuses on the role of the Nursing Associate in the specialty area of mental health, learning disability and autism practice.


You will be trained and supported to develop knowledge and skills to search and extract data for analysis (systematic review training) and use your professional and clinical judgement on aspects of data coding and synthesis to producing research reports and publications to help disseminate findings of a specific clinically-based project/research.


The post holder will be directly supervised by the Service Manager of the South West Clinical School in Cornwall and receive bespoke training and development to successfully deliver this externally funded project/research.


You will work closely with a multi-disciplinary project oversight group and receive mentorship and coaching, alongside training and development to successfully deliver the study, while growing new skills and competencies in research delivery.

You will be supervised by the Clinical School leadership team to undertake the following research focused duties:

  • Be the first point of contact for this project/research related activities and involve others or seek advice where appropriate.
  • Participate in project/ research meetings and keep record of meetings.
  • Undertake literature searches, accessing publications, summarising information (specific systematic review training will be given).
  • Write study reports on progress and final outcomes and contribute to research publications.
  • Plan, organise, coordinate and participate in research focus groups. Transcribe and keep records of the groups meetings and outcomes and updating data and timelines.
  • Day to day maintenance and the updating of data whilst the research/ project is in progress, entering data using electronic systems/databases/spread sheets or paperbased report forms.
  • Facilitate the secure filing and storage of study documentation, patient data and maintain specific site files in accordance with ICH-GCP and research Governance.
