Our Retail team is expanding We are seeking an exceptional Sunday Retail Supervisor to work in one of our three Hackney-based Five Sisters Charity shops.


The successful applicant will be responsible for opening and closing the shop and must be available to work on Sunday.

It is a fast paced environment, and you will need to be target driven with excellent customer service skills. A good knowledge of brands and trends is a definite advantage.

We offer 27 days' holiday pro rata plus public holidays and an excellent pension scheme.

The post holder will have no direct reports, but will be responsible for supervising volunteers as detailed in this job description.

Additionally the Retail Supervisor will be expected to perform all the key responsibilities described with mínimal supervision and for presenting themselves and their work effectively.


Basic function


We are seeking two exceptional Retail Supervisors to work in our exciting new Five Sisters store in Narrow Way, Hackney.

Successful applicants must be flexible, and able to work on weekends as the store will trade seven days a week.


From time to time, the post holder may be required to work in in other stores or retail outlets to meet the needs of the business.

This includes providing cover for annual leave or volunteer shortages.


Organisational context


St Joseph's Hospice was founded in 1905 by the Religious Sisters of Charity who retain an interest in the oversight of the Hospice - our shops are branded as 'Five Sisters' in recognition of those five sisters of charity.

The Hospice is working to achieve Vision 2024, our strategic plan that has five key strands:
patients, enterprise, estates, funding and fundraising, and human resources. The Hospice seeks to be an outstanding provider of palliative and end of life care. Each employee is critical to delivering and maintain those standards in accordance with the Hospice's core values.


Discretion to act


The post holder will make day-to-day decisions regarding operations in the shop, under the supervision of the Retail Manager and in line with Hospice and Retail processes and procedures.


Scale and impact


The post holder will not be responsible for any direct reports, but will have responsibility for up to four indirect volunteer reports.


The Retail Supervisor will not have direct budget responsibility, but will be expected to deliver sales targets agreed with the Retail Manager.


Key accountabilities

1.
Shift supervision

  • Responsible for supervising shifts in the new Mare Street shop
  • Working as a strong team with a second Supervisor
  • Responsible as a key holder for opening and closing the shop, ensuring that it is open for business at the specified opening hours
  • Supervising shifts in other retail outlets such as market stalls and seasonal pop ups may be required from time to time
  • Display merchandise attractively to maximise appeal to customers and as directed by the Retail Manager
  • Daytoday responsibility for supervising and supporting a team of volunteers, including coaching and development
  • Contribute to the training of new volunteers as well as conducting refresher training as needed
  • Supervising and contributing to the delivery of the tasks that have been defined in the daily job list including cleaning, stock replenishment and sorting of donations
  • Responsible for ensuring that a great experience is delivered to customers by all staff and volunteers
  • Responsible for managing customer queries or complaints quickly and to their satisfaction, elevating the issue to the Retail Manager if necessary
  • Responsible for reporting any concerns relating to staff or maintenance to the Retail Manager
  • Leading by example, by promoting a positive working environment for volunteers
  • Build a good rapport with local people to encourage a strong sense of community
  • Develop accurate end of day figure sheets and any other financial or other reports required by the Retail Manager
  • Bank daily takings in line with Hospice policies and procedures

2.
Health and safety


Day-to-day responsibility for insuring that the shop and stock management processes are followed in line with health and safety guidelines.


3.
Sales targets

  • Build an understanding of the required financial performance of the shop, and work towards achieving the sales targets with support from the Retail Manager
  • Process an agreed percentage of donated items through Gift Aid in order to maximise income

4.
Stock control

  • Assist with coordinating and supervising the collection, sorting and storage of stock that has been donated by the general public
  • Play a significant role in controlling stock movement between the Hospi
