Maintain a highly professional personal profile and update clinical knowledge and skills as an exemplar role model in clinical practice for theatre staff Responsibility for ensuring theatre staff are developed to a high standard in clinical practice.

Promote staff and patient safety in theatre.

Provide support to all theatre teams, acting as a professional resource and facilitator for developing, implementing and evaluating programmes of care to ensure clinical effectiveness.

Contribute to developing a culture that promotes equality and values diversity.

Foster an environment conducive to learning and development of self and theatre staff. Responsible for the clinical leadership of theatre teams as required.

To participate in the requirements of the out of hours normal service as required when necessary including weekends and on call duty across a 24 hour service within a range of working environments.

KEY DUTIES To work in collaboration with the Theatre Unit Manager and Senior Practice Educator to identify and facilitate support for staff requiring development within the operating department including training staff in safe scrub skills/technique and theatre etiquette/professionalism.

To collaborate and work in partnership with clinical colleagues to maximise learning opportunities for theatre staff.

To work with and on behalf of the Senior Practice Educator providing support and advice on staff educational and development matters.

To establish robust working relationships with all service users and actively encourage and promote joint working in the pursuit of continuous service improvement.

To adapt and prioritise own workload.

To assist and support the Theatre Unit Manager and Senior Practice Educator in achieving clinical, operational and corporate objectives. To ensure training and safe use of medical devices within the Theatre department. To support Trust educational department to provide multi-disciplinary training involving but not limited to Simulation training as required. CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain personal, professional knowledge and clinical competencies as required for NMC/HCPC.


In partnership with other stakeholders promote a culture of training, development and evidence based research in the pursuit of clinical excellence.

Lead and facilitate in training and support of theatre staff to ensure best practice is achieved. To actively participate in selection and recruitment processes of staff in accordance with national legislation and local policies.

To participate in the induction and provision of orientation programmes for all new members of staff and mentorship of staff.

To support staff in the completion of peri-operative competencies and associated documentation. To create and maintain high quality written and electronic records in accordance with data protection and relevant legislation.

LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES To work with the multi-professional theatre education department in the delivery of effective clinical educational programmes for theatre staff.

To ensure all records (patients, staff) are managed in accordance with good record keeping guidelines.

Support staff awareness and development to ensure emergencies are managed in accordance with hospital policy. Support the Theatre Unit Manager/ Senior Practice Educator to reduce inefficiencies and ineffective utilisation of the operating theatres. Support the development, implementation and periodic review of clinical protocols to ensure patient safety. Participate and support staff in undertaking clinical audit.

Support both team leader (Appraiser) and the appraisee to complete annual appraisal and periodic review where needed.

Support the Theatre Unit Manager and Senior Practice Educator in ensuring that training and development needs that have been identified as part of a Personal Development Plan are properly supported by suitably qualified staff to achieve the plan.

Support and encourage the integration and development of knowledge and skills of staff throughout theatres and aim to develop a greater breadth of competencies enabling service flexibility and provision for the future.
