We are now recruiting for multiple Commercial Assistants to join our team, where you will have the opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge required to build a successful career in Commercial whilst providing support to our customers and working with the team to build a highly-functioning and responsive Commercial directorate.
Job description:
Sitting within the Commercial Directorate, you will work on various commercial projects for different Business Units within the department, according to the priorities of the directorate.
You will support the team in all areas of commercial activity, including procurement, contract and supplier management, as well as taking responsibility for the management of commercial records and data within the areas you are supporting.
You will also have responsibility for improving commercial knowledge within the business unit, working with stakeholders to enhance their understanding of commercial policy.
This will be a busy and challenging role, requiring the ability to multi-task and move onto different projects, often at short notice.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the Head of Commercial and other commercial team members to enable continual improvement and commercial capability development across the business unit and wider department;
- Coordinate & support commercial record keeping and knowledge management;
- Assist in the writing of business cases for commercial activity within the business unit and assist other commercial staff in progressing procurement activity through commercial and spend controls and approvals;
- Assist in the development of sourcing strategies and procurement approaches for varied categories of spend
- Support the management of contracts for the area, helping to ensure that Contract Management Plans are implemented for live contracts where necessary;
- Complete weekly and monthly commercial reports & provide input to management information where required;
- Build positive relationships across the department and raise awareness and understanding of commercial policy among stakeholders
Person specification:
Essential Criteria
- Experience of managing and creating information which will withstand audit scrutiny and support good quality business decision making;
- Demonstrable experience of managing the delivery of multiple activities in parallel within a fastpaced environment;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Proactive and forward thinking
- Good IT skills
- Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working within a commercial setting in the public sector
- Knowledge of the procurement routes available in Government or experience working in a regulated environment
