Description
The client is an award winning media house who inspires and supports the independent retail and wholesale channel. They share knowledge, nurture relationships and deliver creative solutions to help their readers and clients.


They are now looking to hire a
News Reporter to be responsible for breaking exclusive stories for 3 print and digital retail publications.


From developing contacts and delivering exclusive retail trade news that grabs attention from the shop counter to the boardroom, you will write for over 34,000 independent local shops that make up the lion's share of the £45bn convenience store sector.


Reporting into the Editor, you will investigate and expose hot topics such as crime, sustainability and health, analysing what magazines deserves space on retailer shelves.

This is a varied role for a reporter prepared to challenge themselves and others on behalf of their readers.

They are offering a full time permanent contract paying up to £23k basic salary plus £2k OTE,


This also includes hybrid working, up to 5 days a month in the office, collaborative work culture and the opportunity to attend events across the UK, such as Conferences in Birmingham, Manchester etc.


Responsibilities:


  • Generate exclusive news online and in print that stands out from the competition.
  • Adhere to the writing, factchecking and proofing processes for the 3 publications.
  • Develop specialist knowledge of, and contacts within, the convenience industry.
  • Develop online first news strategy alongside the news editor.
  • Upload regular digital content, adapting it for a digital audience and ensuring content is optimised for search engines.
  • Promote content through social media.
  • Ensure editorial values of accuracy, relevance and ease of use are met, and that all material published is within the law.
  • Travel, attend and deliver editorial from industry events inside and outside of standard working hours.

The Person:


  • 6 months to 2 years journalism experience sourcing and writing exclusive, accurate and audience relevant news for online.
  • Strong understanding of how to source, collate and analyse data responsibly.
  • Good people skills and be a good collaborator, demonstrated by examples of building contacts, growing direct reports and working as a team.
  • The ability to understand and represent the interests of readers, demonstrated by examples of quality, accurate writing, effective communication, relationship building and product improvement.
  • Thrive under pressure and are highly organised, with great planning skills and a track record of hitting deadlines.
