A)


Support Superintendent is responsible and accountable for the management of the underground works and supports the Site Construction Manager to achieve successful delivery of the contracted and agreed Project objectives and KPI's and completion in accordance with all contractual and statutory obligations, company policies and procedures for the electrical scope of work.


The Underground Support Superintendent's role is to provide support to the Site Construction Manager through the provision of field supervision, planning, quality monitoring, coordination and construction management capabilities.

The Superintendent is required to demonstrate leadership and commitment in relation to the implementation of the HSEC Procedures.


B) Specific Roles & Responsibilities**- Understand and implement the Company's safety policy, standards, and systems

  • Ensure that risk assessments on activities within their area of responsibility, ensuring that the methods and systems of work are safe
  • Ensure the implementation of the project procedures;
  • Ensure staffing levels are in accordance with manning plans and justify any differences
  • Manage project construction subcontractors;
  • Provide project coordination (between process engineering, drawing office, site, QA/QC, vendors, etc.) and with other construction areas;
  • Supervise contract administration (Claims, penalties, acceleration etc);
  • Monitor area project status in terms of time, quality and cost;
  • Coordinate area site construction activities, identify and manage all stakeholders;
  • Scope change management (Site instructions, variations, etc);
  • Direct estimating and proposal activities;
  • Interface with other area stakeholders
:

Negotiate with and integrate activities of contractors, consultants, users and top management. Liaise with appropriate Client contact;

  • Identify technical and functional problems. Obtain expertise when and where needed and to identify when such expertise is required;
  • Implement all aspects of the HSEC Procedures for the designated area including audits/inspections of the contractors' areas, hazard card reporting, accident/incident investigations reporting, issue of access and work permits, behavioural based observations, conducting additional safety meetings and weekly workplace inspections/audits as and when required etc;
  • Provide all reasonable assistance and cooperation to contractors in the execution of their work;
  • Supervision of any extra works by contractor;
  • Preempt problems to the progress or performance of work and recommend strategies to overcome any delay;
  • Oversee closeout activities of the area construction site.
  • Ensure and oversee compliance with quality standards in all tasks
  • Arrange and approve information for Quality and other Audits
  • Take part in prestart activities at the beginning of each shift
  • Ensure that project schedules are safely executed on time and strive for continuous improvement to attain operational excellence
  • Conduct health and safety inspections, and record and follow up any actions that are identified
  • Ensure accident and nearmiss reporting procedures are understood and complied with, and assist with accident investigations as required
  • Have agreed specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and timebound KPI's with regular appraisals with their respective line manager
  • Ensure that the incoming superintendent is briefed on all relevant matters, including any outstanding remedial actions that have been identified as part of a statutory inspection, where the operation spans the interval of more than one shift in any day.
  • Immediately rectify or stop any operation or work that in your opinion needs to be rectified or stopped on grounds of safety
  • Schedule and conduct routine site safety tours, including those which include members of the safety team and contractor personnel
  • Intervene when personnel are failing to discharge their health and safety responsibilities, and encourage good behavior and practice
  • Actively contribute to site safety review meetings.
  • Set a personal example on all matters of health and safety.
