Teaching assistants are required at Overstone Independent School in Northampton on a permanent basis to start in January 2024.

Job Details:


  • Position: Teaching Assistant
  • Full & Part Time Available

Flexible hours available as shown below:

  • Full-time teaching assistants
- £20,000 per annum before the deduction of tax and National insurance.

  • Annual fulltime salary for 35 working hours (8.00 am to 4.00 pm with onehour unpaid lunch break) per week which is paid over 52 weeks.
  • 13 weeks paid holiday annually.
  • Parttime teaching assistants
  • Parttime hours prorated 8.30 am to 1.30 pm 25 hours per week.
  • Salary of £14,286.00 per annum payable at the monthly rate of £1,191.00 before the deduction of Tax and National Insurance.
  • Payable over 52 weeks.
  • 13 weeks paid holiday annually.

Alternatively:


  • Parttime hours 12.00 to 3.30 pm daily. 17.5 hours per week.
  • Salary £10,000 per annum payable monthly at the rate of £834.00 before the deduction of Tax and National Insurance.
  • Payable over 52 weeks with 13 weeks paid holiday.

Summary of a Teaching Assistant's role.

To provide a complementary service to teachers and other staff, addressing the needs of children who require assistance in overcoming barriers to learning in order to achieve their full potential, or accessing the curriculum.

To work with a range of pupils, but give priority to those who need the most help, especially those experiencing multiple disadvantages including:

  • Children with special or medical needs
  • Challenging behaviour
  • Children with a statement of special educational needs
To predominantly be education-based but will have a wider remit including working with families and the wider community.

To work with children on a one-to-one basis or in small or large groups, acting as a:

  • Listener
  • Facilitator for learning
  • Encourager
  • Motivator
  • Role model

Core Purpose:


  • To work with pupils additional needs and behaviour has significant impact upon their attainment.
  • To support the ethos of the school.
  • To improve progress and achievement by helping to minimize barriers to learning and maximize pupil participation.

Qualifications:


  • Qualification in Level 2 or 3 in childcare or Health and social care
  • Training is offered.
  • Experience: Three years of working with children or within the care sector.
