To provide professional administrative and secretarial support to allocated wards and ward managers.

The post holder will also line manager a team of ward clerks overseeing their day-to-day duties, training and ongoing development.


The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

We currently have a team of six ward managers assistants who support ward managers for our short stay wards, hyper acute stroke, complex medicine wards and Ambulatory unit.


This is a busy role which lends itself to someone who is organised, enjoys working to tight deadlines and enjoys both working as part of a team but also happy and able to work autonomously.


As a ward manager's assistant you will have a broad overview of the day to day running of the ward, what administrative support your ward manger requires and also oversee supervision, training and development of your allocated ward clerks.


The role of a ward manager's assistant is to provide professional comprehensive and confidential administrative support to their allocated ward managers, you will be expected to work closely with the ward managers, actively monitoring admin processes for both the recruitment and retention of clinical and administrative staff.


You will be expected to arrange ward meetings/individual staff meetings, take minutes, oversee staff absences and monitor the recording of staff absences on Healthroster, you will attend ward budget meetings and assist the ward managers with any projects they wish to complete.

You will undertake audits when required to ensure that processes and procedures are adhered to.


You will also be responsible for staff appraisals, training and development of the team of ward clerks you will line manage.
