We are looking for individuals who enjoy problem solving as part of a team.

The roles provide a unique opportunity to develop your hydrogeological knowledge across a range of activities which can be water resources or water quality focused.


  • Main duties dependent on role include:
  • Undertaking Hydrogeological Risk Assessments.
  • Analysing pumping test data.
  • Supporting internal teams and customers by providing technical hydrogeological and permitting advice.
  • Working with partners to deliver environmental outcomes.
  • Reviewing land contamination reports.
  • Working in a team to help deliver DEFRA's 25year environment plan.
We have a variety of tools and internal training providing many development opportunities both technically and personally. There are local and national technical specialists who can offer support and guidance.

  • Your base will be at one of our office locations: Trentside Offices, Ripley Office, Rothley Office.
The team

  • The Groundwater and Contaminated Land Team is multifunctional team focused on protecting both the quality and quantity of our groundwater resources.
The team provides technical support to internal teams and external customers on a range of groundwater related issues including:

  • Abstraction licencing
  • Permitting
  • Planning advice
  • Catchment management
  • Groundwater vulnerability
The team also provides technical input to enforcement cases and incident response activities where groundwater is at risk.

Experience/skills required

  • Essential:
  • A relevant geoscience or environmental degree.
  • Knowledge of hydrogeology, groundwater protection and how this relates to a sustainable use of water resources.
  • Experience of using a variety of information sources to help make technical decisions.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
  • Experience of data handling, time and file management and excellent organisational skills.
We take part in incident response. You'll be encouraged to get involved. Full training is provided.
